Hello once again Big River members!!
Hope all are doing
well!
J ust one more
meeting before our “Show at the O'! Please make every
effort to attend April's meeting to get your assignments and
details of the show. I know that every member will help in
every way that you can. I really appreciate Tommy taking on
the responsibility of show chair.
Speaking of shows, we
had a great time at the show in Byram , but ladies you left
me out numbered. I had all these men to keep straight and
that was not an easy task.
Our next club meeting
will be April 14th at the Western Sizzlin Steak
House Hwy 80 and Flowood Drive. Again, please make every
effort to attend this important meeting.
Judy

This month's meeting will be
held on THURSDAY APRIL
14th. We are meeting once again at the
Western Sizzlin' in Flowood at the intersection of Hwy 49
and Hwy 80. Member duties, job assignments and instructions
concerning our 6th Annual Show
at the O'
coming up on May 8th will be the main agenda. If you are
planning to help and be a part of this event then please
attend this meeting and volunteer your services!
All members are
encouraged to: Attend the monthly
meetings. Arrive a little early and eat before
the meeting is called to order at 7:00. Drive
to meetings in their classic Chevys when time and weather
permits. Please wear your club shirt or other
form of clothing bearing the BRC logo for public
recognition and to show club loyalty.
Please remember that our
meetings are always on the second Thursday of each month,
unless you are otherwise notified!

Bobby Buckley
and Bobby Clark remain on our thoughts and prayer list as they
each have ongoing health issues. Bobby Clark fell and hurt his
shoulder while attending a basketball game and had to have
surgery to repair a torn tendon or something. No updates
since the surgery so we will assume, hope and pray that it
all went well.
Our deepest sympathies go to
the Sanders family. John's brother, Carl Sanders from Many,
LA passed away in March. Becky Holder's mother from
Woodville, MS fell and
broke her hip. She had to have surgery on the hip and is now
on the road to recovery. Bill Barbuto had a kidney stone
attack while in Gulfport and had to spend a few hours in the
hospital down there. Says he finally passed a stone a few days
later.
Carolyn Mason reported that Newt's
brother John Mason could not beat his infection and
had
to have his leg removed above the knee. After his surgery he
was moved from ICU to a room. He is not out of the
woods yet, but if he remains stable he will probably be
moved to a rehab in the next couple of weeks. They are
hoping he will qualify for the one at St D. He will have to
have dialysis, wound care & rehab all at the same location.
The
family was told he had a 10% chance and yet he has survived
this surgery and seems to be holding his own. Carolyn said
that If it wasn't for all the prayers, he could not have
made it this far. Please keep John Mason in your prayers.
We also send our
deepest sympathies to St. Pierre's in Louisiana. Mary St.
Pierre lost her battle with cancer last month. Our thoughts
and prayers are with you Herman. Another classic Chevy
friend, Mike Swain from Ruston, LA also lost his battle with
cancer. May you rest in peace Mary and Mike! We will miss
you.......

THE LORD'S
PRAYER
Our Fat her, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be
done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our
trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass
against us. And lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and
the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.
AMEN! |

Tay
& I went Friday afternoon. It rained all the way and most
of the night. No paint washed off! Saturday JoAnn and Bill
Barbuto, Diane & Bobby Clark, Jessie & Bobby Buckley and
Carolyn & Newt Mason arrived around 10:00. They saw several
wrecks, had to take a detour, got lost (the usual
stuff). The only classic representing BRC was Tay's '55.
Everybody else traveled in their regular vehicles. The
people were very nice and the banquet meal was delicious. Tay's
car won 3rd place. The host club presented a check for
$6,000 to the Richard Murphy Hospice Foundation. BRC
donated another $100. We left Hammond about 9:30 Saturday
night and got home about midnight.
T roop 98 8th Annual Car &
Truck Show & Shine
Saturday March 19th
Byram, MS
Reported by Wayne Hart
The
Boy Scouts of Troop 98 had a perfect day to host their 8th
Annual Car & Truck Show & Shine at the Springridge Road
United Methodist Church in Byram. Numbers were down this
year compared to last with around 90 or so participants. The
annual St. Patty Parade was also going on in Jackson this
day so the lower turnout could have been a result of that. The
rising cost of gasoline probably had its big foot in the
door too! But still, 90 cars was nothing to complain about.
Big River Classics was represented by Bobby Buckley in his
57 Chevy, Bobby Clark in his 57 Chevy, Wayne Hart in his 57
Chevy, Larry Holder in his 57 Chevy accompanied by Bill
Barbuto, John Sanders in his 55 Chevy panel truck, and Paul
and Judy Webb in their 68 Camaro. Paul is doing some
interior work on their 57 Chevy convertible thus dusting off
the Camaro and showing it off for a change. As usual there
were door prizes being given away and burgers and dogs being
cooked up and sold for extra profits. Girl Scouts were also
on site selling coffee, breakfast items, popcorn and GS
Cookies. When time came for awards the Webb's Camaro was in
the Top 10 car picks. John Sanders had just got his panel truck
back from Tink's with its new paint job and won a "Just
Because" plaque. Jack Brown with the MSRA once again helped
the scouts organize this years show. Great show guys!

Wayne's 57 Chevy Truck Reported by Wayne
Hart
Believe it or not I
finally finished
sand blasting the truck frame! I also sprayed it in primer
and now have it all painted in black. Got on a roll there
the last two weeks of March! The frame
has been moved inside my shop beside the Belair. I am hoping by the
end of next month to have the front axle, new mono leaf
springs, new shocks, and new 5 lug disc brake conversion kit
all mounted back in place.

The Inventors of the Automobile Air
Conditioner, the four Goldberg Brothers
The four Goldberg brothers, Lowell, Norman, Hiram, and Max,
invented and developed the first automobile air-conditioner.
On July 17, 1946, the temperature in
Detroit was 97 degrees.
The four brothers walked into old man Henry Ford's office
and sweet-talked his secretary into
telling him that four gentlemen were there with the
most exciting innovation in the auto industry since the
electric starter.
Henry was curious and invited them into his office. They
refused and instead asked that he come out to the parking
lot to their car.
They persuaded him to get into the car, which was about 130
degrees, turned on the air conditioner, and cooled the car
off immediately.
The old man got very excited and invited them back to the
office, where he offered them $3 million for the patent.
The brothers refused, saying they would settle for $2
million, but they wanted the recognition by having a label,
'The Goldberg Air Conditioner,' on the dashboard of each car
in which it was installed.
Now
old man Ford was more than just a little anti-Semitic, and
there was no way he was going to put the Goldberg's name on
two million Fords.
They haggled back and forth for about two hours and finally
agreed on $4 million and that just their first names would
be shown.
And
so to this day, all Ford air conditioners show -- Lo,
Norm, Hi, and Max -- on the controls.
