PAST DUE
ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP
For those who have not renewed your
membership with Big River Classics, you are now two
months delinquent. Membership chairman, Jessie Buckley,
has mailed postcards to you members to remind you that
you have not paid your Club dues. I’m sorry, but if we
have not received your dues before or by the next
meeting on June 12th, you will be dropped as
a member, your information will be deleted from the web
site and newsletter mailing list. We’ve tried to give
ample time and the opportunity to renew and stay with
us. The Club officers and Board of Directors will vote
on any reinstatements that may come up for discussion.
Thank you for your cooperation, Wayne

Twin City
Classic Chevy Club – Monroe, LA
Get ready for the weekend! Please plan to
go to the Holidome in Monroe on June 6-7 this weekend if
you can. Our good friends from our sister club always
support our car shows and besides that they put on a
great show too! Their show is open to 1955 to 1972
Chevys as you know. The plan for those who can leave out
Friday morning is to meet in the Kroger parking lot
behind McDonalds in Clinton right off I-20 on
Springridge Road. We know that the rooms in Monroe may
not be ready for us to check in to until Friday
afternoon around 3:00, but the later we wait the warmer
the weather will get as we drive. Some of us “poazziss”
don’t have A/C in our rides! Also prime parking spaces
will be taken up the later we wait to go. Some Club
members say they want to wait and go later in the day
and others want to leave early like we normally do. For
those who wish to leave early, meet behind McDonalds in
Clinton and be prepared to leave at 8:30 sharp. You
others, see you when you get there. Some of you said
that you can’t get there until Saturday. Just come on
and have a safe trip!
For those coming Friday please remember that we will all
be wearing our light blue Event Shirts
from our last show. Then we wear our Club shirts to
their hospitality supper Friday night and also to their
awards banquet Saturday night. Big River Classics
usually gets to bring home the Club Participation award.
Let’s not break the roll we’ve been on!

THOUGHTS & PRAYERS
The
following are Club members, family members of Club
members, and other friends who we care very much for who
are having health and/or personal issues. We want each
one of these special people to know that they are being
thought of and that they are being included in prayer
that they get better.
Bobby Clark, Jeannie Elmore and her daughter
Melissa Jane,
Wayne Hart’s son Lance,
David
Castle, Charlene Smith who is wife of Tommy Smith
(Chicken Willy) of the Ole Brook Cruisers club, and
“Round Man” Lawrence Chambliss & his wife Lee Earle.
Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Bobby
Clark told us at last meeting that Joe Byrd is now
cancer free! Also, I found out that Jack Brown has
broken a bone in his left elbow, nothing too serious,
but nonetheless painful. Please pray for Jack a speedy
recovery.

The
Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in
heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our
trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from
evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen!

PRESIDENT’S SOAPBOX &
POPPYCOCK
Did I mention last month how bad the cost
of gasoline has ticked me off? Come on! I know I can’t
do a thing about it except to raise a little “H- E-
double L”, so let it be known that I am trying to raise
some. This is ridiculous! I’m telling you, one day it
will come back to bite the “oil pilferers” right in the
butt! I’ll probably be so poor by then and can’t afford
to even laugh though. I don’t care whether you are rich
or poor, no one should not have to sacrifice their home,
their groceries or their fun just to pay these
outrageous prices for gas. We use our classic cars for
fun and to raise donations for charity! Donations
through car shows can’t be raised if folks can’t afford
gasoline to go to car shows. What’s going to happen to
the charities then? Sure, they will continue but just
not as well without us. I guess we will all have to take
what they dish out to us and hope that it will reach a
stopping point soon.
On a brighter side, even though we may be
loosing a few members, we have been rejoined by one of
our favorite couples! John and Geraldine Overstreet from
Wesson,
MS
have found their way back to Big River Classics. As I
recall, John and Geraldine have a 1955 and a 1956
Chevrolet. I think this is great! Not only do we get
back a valuable couple but we will have the ’55 & ’56
Chevys to offset the uneven balance of the dominating
’57 Chevys. Welcome back John & Geraldine, we missed
you! We could sure stand many more new people to join
our club. I occasionally see a stray Tri- Five Chevy
around town and wonder why that person is not a member
of our elite little club. They may belong to another
club, but I think they would be much happier if they
joined a club strictly honoring the Tri-5 Chevys.
Several members are still plugging away
on projects. The Carpenters are very close to having
their ’55 convertible ready for show. Allen told me a
few days ago that he has fired off the LS engine and
actually drove the car around the neighborhood. The
Holders are patiently waiting for the return of their
’57 from the paint shop. Larry has a pile of new goodies
ready to go back on “Ole Red” when we go pick it up from
Lexington.
John Sanders has come a long way on his ’55 panel truck.
He has been driving it everywhere and has plans on
taking it to Monroe. Ray Elmore is just about to work
our all the bugs from his ’57 after it went through a
major upgrade of a new modern rolling chassis and engine
cosmetics. Stacey Harper is slowly but surely making a
comeback with a new look on their ’57 Chevy. Bobby
Buckley has made many upgrades to the orange ’57. Sorry
Bobby, just had to mess with you!”
Let me remind you. This is a Club
newsletter. If you would like to add anything please
feel free to send us your stories, announcements, or
ideas. The newsletter could stand interesting stuff
rather than mine and Jane’s. Get it to us before the end
of each month and we will include your section. Maybe I
will appoint a Club reporter at next meeting…..hmmmm?
That’s
it, see you at Penn’s!
Wayne

May
10th,
2008
3rd Annual Show at the O’
O’Reilly Auto Parts,
Clinton,
MS
Big River Classics members started
arriving at the Clinton O’Reilly Auto Parts store at
7:00 am Saturday morning to prepare for 8:00
registration. Tables, tents, PA system, and signs were
quickly set up as some early bird registrants began
cruising in as early as 7:30! Big River’s own Larry
Holder and John Sanders entertained the crowd with
oldies music, jokes, shenanigans, and gave away great
door prizes provided by O’Reillys, thanks to Jody
Whitworth! After registration finally ended, we had
around 66 registered plus a couple of unregistered
vehicles packed in the store’s small parking lot. We
were very pleased to have an excellent turnout from a
variety of a car clubs this year. There were cars from
the Mississippi Classic Cruisers, the Mid State Rodders
from the Pelahatchie area, the Mississippi Antique
Vehicle Club, the Twin City Classic Chevy Club from the
Monroe Louisiana area, Dixie Rodders Club and Queen City
Rods and Classics from the Meridian area, One Rule
Street Rod Club from the Vicksburg area, the
Mississippi Street Rod Association, and the Delta
Classic Auto Club from the Cleveland MS area. There were
people who came from Yazoo City and also from Kosciusko.
No matter where you came from, we are just glad you
chose Clinton, MS this day.
District Manger Clint Reaux and his hard
working staff helped us put on our most successful show
thus far at O’Reillys. Again Clint and some of the guys
grilled up free hamburgers and hotdogs for all
participants and car enthusiasts. This year, awards were
given away for the Top 10 cars, the Top 5 trucks, and
the Top 5 Pre-49s along with a Best of Show trophy for
each class. Awards were also given for an O’Reilly
Favorite and a BRC Favorite. The Mississippi Classic
Cruisers took home the award for best Club
Participation!
We usually combine the funds we raise at
this show with other funds from our Tri-5 show in
Vicksburg to give to the Children’s Hospital. But this
year we did a spur of the moment thing and decided that
all the proceeds from the 3rd Annual Show at
the O” would go to the family of a six year of girl,
Mallory Mashburn. Little Mallory has been having serious
issues with her health and is a patient at the Blair E.
Batson Hospital for Children. Her father is a police
officer for the City of Clinton. Medical expenses have
been taking its toll on her family. We hope that we made
the Mallory smile when they got the surprise and found
good use for the donation. It sure made us feel very
good to give it.
BRC members who worked the show were
Bobby & Jessie Buckley, Bill & JoAnn Barbuto, Bobby
Clark, Ray Elmore, Tay Everett, Ade & Linda Fleming,
Wayne & Jane Hart, Stacey, Stacey Lynn & Samatha Harper,
Larry Holder, Tommy Hudson, Sidney & Annie Overby, Ed &
Mary Robertson, John Sanders, and Paul & Judy Webb.

May
17th,
2008
2nd Annual Crooked Creek Car Fest
Pelahatchie, MS
The Mid State Rodders club hosted a very
successful 2nd annual car show over in
Pelahatchie.
Muscadine
Park
was packed with a showing of around 146 vehicles this
year. It was another great day for a car show with clear
sunny weather and lots of shade. Big River members who
came to Pelahatchie were Bill & JoAnn Barbuto, Wayne
Hart, Larry Holder, Newt Mason, Ed & Mary Robertson,
John Sanders, Ron Swaggart, and Paul, Judy & Nikki Webb.
There were many awards to be won. First, Newt Mason
received one of 30 sponsor awards as did Charles
Bullock. John Sanders won a Top 3 Project award for his
55 panel truck. The Robertsons placed in the Top 10 car
awards and then took home Best of Show Car with their
Nomad. The Webb’s 57 also placed in the top 10 cars
while Ron Swaggart was in the Top 10 pre-49 his Ford
roadster.

WHAT TO DO THIS MONTH
Please
don’t let gas prices completely keep you cooped up a
home. Go to something fairly local if you can’t go far.
There are several shows out there this month. Check out
the 2008 Mississippi Car Shows and Events below and make
your hard choice of which ones you want to hit.
